Can someone tell me, why only people with an account can comment on these doujinshis?

Because bots kept finding ways around the captcha to spam ads. The API bots used to post comments automatically relied on the account-less commenting feature so I asked Puru to disable it till he figured out spam protection that could handle it because I'm not able to keep up with 2 comments per second when it comes to cleaning up spam.

Damn, these bots are quite a nuisance. I'm getting flashbacks of NieR: Automata.

I wonder what these bots actually are that make things so troublesome and difficult? I hope this will stop one day.

The issue is that Captcha has been proven ineffective against some stuff, the fact that Puru tries to minimize the inconvenience for users instead of going for the real heavy stuff makes it even less effective.

While writing the code to have a script repeatedly do the same action (find a random gallery and post a specific comment) requires a little bit of programming knowledge, its simple enough that professionals won't even take you serious as a programmer if writing such scripts is all you got for experience, and running them is so easy that you can teach toddlers and boomers to do it effortlessly.

Comment sections felt a bit more alive with the random white names, even if those were also the main contributors of toxicity, spam and backseat moderation I had to clean up while moderating comment sections, I don't have high hopes for seeing them back anytime soon given how long Puru his to-do list already is.
